Idea for the closing show of 2011;
Scene: Ryan and Jenny are getting married. Castle and Beckett are sitting next to each other in a church pew. Josh apparently is out of town, again.
Without any reservation Castle reaches over and holds Kate’s hand. There’s a slow tight squeeze that lingers, communicates everything he has been longing to tell her, yet has never had the opportunity to do. He stares at her intently, not stocker intently, lovingly, it’s now or never intently. (Camera holds on hand, while she squeezes back), it is this slow sexless intimacy that causes Kate’s heart to melt, and she leans against his shoulder; she blushes, glances at him, and smiling looks away, blushing again. She can’t believe it’s really happening.
Josh then appears out of nowhere, sitting next to Kate (with a thump). Camera to hands, they separate.
Josh gives a quick kiss on the cheek, glad to be back in time for Ryan’s wedding (the two apparently bonded over beers at Ryan’s bachelor party).
The pew becomes uncomfortable tight so Castle excuses himself, and stands in the back of the church, watching Kate the whole time.
During the vows Kate turn’s around to look at Castle, they hold their gaze, she turns away.*
During the kiss (Ryan and Jenny’s), Kate again turns around, this time astonished that Castle has left. She is pained, did he leave forever? She has made up her mind.
During the reception there is dancing in the background, while Kate and Josh talk. We don’t hear what they are saying, no need Josh’s face says it all, and he is heartbroken. The attention to their “discussion” is compromised due to the fact that Jenny is throwing her bouquet, joy and sorrow.
Kate still dressed in her “wedding attire” shows up on Castle’s doorstep. Martha, answers the door, and explains to Kate that he HAS left, this time to Europe. Kate interrogates Martha, and is off to the airport.
Kate arrives at the ticket counter, asking if Richard Castle has checked in, she is denied information. She almost begins to cry, when the ticket agent next to her, asks her if she is Kate Beckett. She answers, and the ticket agent holds up a ticket for her saying, “A Richard Castle left this for you.” End
OR
*During the kiss, a gunman whom Ryan apparently “put away” is out and gunning for revenge. (During the episode we get the back story).
Castle sees him enter the church with gun drawn taking aim. Castle jumps at the gunman getting shot in the process.
Rushed to the hospital, Josh is tending to Castle, while Kate looks on from the front seat of the ambulance.
Kate sits by his side holding his unconscious hand. While Josh looks on from outside the room, realizing that though he just saved this man’s life, he has lost his love. End
